Empty Cups is a track from Charlie's second studio album Voicenotes. Written by Puth, Rickard Göransson, James Ghaleb and Savan Kotecha, the song was released on 11th May 2019.


It is about Charlie at a party trying to seduce a girl who already has a boyfriend but Charlie considers himself better than him. He wants to take her away and get more intimate with her to spark a relationship between the two.
"What’s really cool about this song is that the chorus sounds like a verse. It’s not very sparse, it’s very wordy. But it’s very earworm-y and I didn’t really have any sounds that sounded like – verses on the chorus. And it kind of sounds like a little rap thing so, I was very, very happy with it."
