I Hope (Remix) ft. Charlie Puth

I Hope (Remix) - Gabby Barrett ft. Charlie Puth

Charlie Puth hops on this remix of "I Hope", which was originally written by Gabby Barrett. It was released on 17th April 2020.

The song is about wishing for an ex to fall in love only to be cheated on as karma for cheating themselves. Charlie changes the lyrics to offer the male perspective.

On Amazon Live, Charlie said that even though I Hope is a country song and he is a pop singer, he knew he had to jump on the track because he appreciated the lyrics and R&B influences of the song.

Barrett on how the remix with Charlie Puth came to be:

He posted the song on his Instagram story and had the caption like 'wow' and tagged me in it and he later on messaged me and said, "hey I want to remix this song". Then our teams just kind of got together and now we have a new version of the song and I’m super excited for people to hear [it].

Puth on why he joined on the remix:

"This song is A+ songwriting and I just had to be apart of it. Thank you so much for having me on it Gabby."

On changing the perspective to give the song a twist, Charlie said on the Amazon Live that took place the day of release

"The song is thematically about a girl not wishing [her ex] well. 'You messed me up. I hope someone else messes you up too.' … It made me think, what if there’s a situation where… there’s a split-screen… the same thing is happening to the guy, but they weren’t telling each other."
